Fake UV Curing Lamps in the Indian Market

There has been a sudden spurt of supply of Fake and Counterfeit UV Lamps in the Indian market. Add to it, we have come across UV Lamps with misleading names similar to some of the leading brands. At “DR Optical Disc India Pvt. Ltd.” It has been a constant endeavor on our part to educate our customer technically, so that they are able to achieve optimum results along with the best quality. With the same target, We through this article are going to provide an insight on how to identify a fake or misleading UV Curing Lamp. We would also like to mention that, since we are the distributors of UV Lamps from Western Quartz, USA and Alphacure, UK, all the references in this article are to these brands only.

UV Lamps play an integral part in any Curing Machine and may be considered as the heart of the curing system. A genuine UV Lamp from a good brand not only enhances the end results, but also reduces the down time as well as the make ready time of the Machine. This saves valuable electricity and the idle time of the Machine. Some of the suppliers in their greed for money are indulging in unfair trade practices and misleading people by providing UV Lamps which are Fake, Counterfeit or they are not what they are told to be. Following is a very easy step by step process of identifying the genuineness of a UV Lamp :

  1. Outer Packing : Alphacure Lamps come in singles packing in a white Box, with their Brand name and code mentioned on the Box. Western Quartz Lamps come in a 3 pcs unique Triangular packing, which is very tough. None of them come in Light Blue or Dark Blue Tubular Boxes as shown below. Also both the companies never use Foam to wrap the Lamps.

2. Lamp Code : Western Quartz Lamps supplied by their Indian Dealers have a unique code like OD12-30004-28, SI12-30004-28, or TI26-XXXX whereas the first two Alphabets denote the dealer name in short. So if you come across a Western Quartz Lamp with code like CS7XX-1 or some other code, not similar to those mentioned above, it’s probably not a genuine Lamp. Similarly all Alphacure Lamps have code beginning with AC like AC-10046, AC-12229 etc.

3. Lamp Marking : All Western Quartz lamps have the logo fired in ink, not laser engraved. Alphacure has Lamp markings with its Logo that have been etched on the Glass. If you run your finger on the marking, it cannot be felt easily. They never print on the Lamps. Fake Lamps on the other hand generally print on the Lamp in White, or do Laser engraving, and can be felt easily by running your finger over them. Examples of all of them have been shown below :

20161105_121525shapeimage_120161107_1242064. Protrude on the Glass Tube : As shown in the picture below, Both Alphacure and Western Quartz Lamps don’t have this “Evacuation Tip off” protrude mark on the Glass tube. Their Glass tubes are totally clear without any such mark. If you find any such mark on the UV Lamp, then the Lamp is not from Western Quartz, Alphacure or any other reputed Brand.

Please also beware of highly misleading names like “WESTQUARTZ” which is coming from China and has nothing to do with Western Quartz of USA. Also please note that the “SUNQUARTZ” UV Lamps being offered by some suppliers in North India are also coming from China and have nothing to do with Sunquartz of USA. Always please check UV Curing Lamps on the above parameters before buying.

We sincerely hope that you will find the above article useful, informative and will help you in many ways in identifying the correct UV Lamps. For any further clarification in this regards please feel free to contact the undersigned.
